Wk 3 – Artist Interview – Josh Benz

Josh was one of the featured artists at the Werby Gallery. His preferred medium was painting with acrylic. Though he did mention that he had experimented with other mediums such as oil, charcoal and pastel. Josh is interested in expressional forms of art, and into interesting figure drawings.
Drawing was a way for Josh to express emotions and to capture important moments in his life. One of his paintings featured in the gallery, “Josh and Jackie” features him and his girlfriend Jackie. In the picture Josh draws himself drawing another picture inside that portrait and his girlfriend sitting next to him. It was a moment that he wanted cherished and remembered. The amount of detail Josh put into his work shows that he really cares about what he does and puts his best effort into his paintings.
Josh gave us some information of how he starts and finish a drawing. He prefers drawing in the dark in a dark room with no light and no windows. The lack of light creates more depth to the colors themselves. His pictures consist of the things he wants to be included in the picture.
